PRESERVING
OUR COAST GUARD HISTORY
Sitting majestically, solitarily, enticingly invitingly - but alone - as millions of travelers land upon the famous Hatteras Island, the visitor sees a beauitful but mysteriously abandoned building. It is, it was, the 1898 Oregon Inlet United States Life-Saving Service Station No. 16.
It needs to be saved, to be rescued and nurtured - just as it spent its life doing for others.

Discover Our Mission
We are the Outer Banks Coast Guard History Preservation Group. As we preserve the rich history of the 1898 Oregon Inlet Life Saving Station, take time to learn about the heroic stories of the Coast Guard personnel and earlier United States Life Saving Service members who served here. Our call is to ensure that their bravery and legacy are cherished for generations to come.
